ALCS Game 4/NLCS Game 3 Open Thread

Terry Francona and the Indians bullpen turned in their most stunning effort yet, a 4-2 win with 81⁄3 innings of relief that has Tito and Co. one win away from the World Series with a 3-0 lead in the ALCS. He did a good job just to get his glove on the ball, but the ball flipped out of the pocket as his momentum carried him into the wall and Santana scored all the way from first on the double that provided Cleveland with the early 1-0 lead. Certainly Monday’s Game 3 is a must-win for the Jays, however.

“It just looked like he was patient, waiting for his pitch, and didn’t miss it today”, Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin said of Napoli.

Indians starter Trevor Bauer departed in the first inning when the stitches in the little finger of his pitching hand burst open and blood started streaming from the cut. So instead Bauer goes here.

The Indians’ starting pitcher left the game in the first inning, but they’ll play for a chance to clinch their spot in the World Series Tuesday. He allowed three runs and six hits (two homers) while striking out six in 4.2 innings. Stroman fell behind 3-0 and came back with a pair of called strikes, but eventually lost Napoli on a slider tailing out of the zone that the first baseman refused to offer at. Per Major League Baseball rules, Bauer had to leave the game, putting the bullpen in the most hard position its been in this season. Francona confirmed Monday night in a mid-game interview with TBS’ Sam Ryan that Kluber will start Game 4 for the Indians.

Bauer faced the Jays twice. The Orioles, the road team, lost in 11 innings after a game-winning three-run homer. The Jays entered the ninth with a 2-1 lead but Roberto Osuna couldn’t hold it. Once again in Game 3, the Jays failed to top two runs, and once again they fell short. At the time, it was the Tribe’s 14th straight victory.

“This really is just a game and the name is offensive, so why not change it?” said Michael Barnes. Josh Donaldson torched opposing fastballs in 2016 to the tune of a.297 batting average, .604 slugging percentage and 13 home runs, but against curveballs, those numbers dropped to.245, .453 and two. Edwin Encarnacion also saw his power take a dive on curveballs (.460 slugging percentage) versus fastballs (.585). Sanchez was fantastic all season while putting up a (15-2, 3.00 ERA, 1.167 WHIP, 7.5 K/9) record.

“I hope that, one day, the Cleveland team’s ownership will realize that its racist name and logo has got to go – entirely”, he said in a statement. Blue Jays pitcher Marcus Stroman had three hits and four earned runs with five punchouts on 5.1 innings of work in tonight’s game. “I’ve been able to throw normally and stuff”. He hasn’t allowed a run this post-season (7 2/3 innings) or, in fact, in his playoff career (16 innings).

The six relievers combined to allow two runs in 8.1 innings. He was 4-3 with a 4.59 ERA in 16 home starts. It’s all come down to timely hitting, something Toronto will desperately need to find to avoid falling into a 3-0 series hole. Stroman left the game after he surrendered a subsequent walk to Mike Napoli, the next batter.
