Donald Trump speaks at a meeting of the Iowa Republican Party in Des Moines on May 16, 2015.
From the New York Times obtaining Trump’s controversial 1995 income tax returns a few weeks ago, to the video released by the Washington Post earlier this week of him degrading women, Trump’s campaign is in a downward spiral only weeks away from election day.
The RNC denies that it’s intentionally withholding support from Trump. Still, Ryan’s decision to focus exclusively on campaigning for Republicans running for the House and Senate sparked angry criticism from some members who felt Ryan should continue supporting Trump without conditions. It’s an attack, essentially, on their existence. Afterward came stories in several news outlets alleging Trump had inappropriately touched women.
So, Trump probably won’t be elected into office.
The GOP has a history of attempting to delegitimize opponents by preying upon the human instinct to define ourselves in terms of in-groups and out-groups. That means taking on Republican incumbents like Barbara Comstock in the suburbs of Washington, DC; Mike Coffman in eastern Denver, Erik Paulsen outside of Minneapolis and Crescent Hardy outside of Las Vegas.
“The Democrats have an unprecedented and lopsided advertising advantage in this race like we have never seen before, and it is having a serious and negative effect”, Curt Anderson, a former RNC political director, told Politico.
By contrast, Ash said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has approached this “very politically astutely”, because he “put his head down, waited for the bullets to fly and the circus to pass by”.
While Trump’s candidacy has long exposed the party’s divisions, GOP leaders had hoped to prevent an all-out civil war until after the election. Compromise would be viewed as complicity. By casting Obama as “other”, the party was able to unify its dissent.
“In my career as a law enforcement professional I was confronted with and worked tirelessly to end the horrific reality of violence toward women”, Knight said in a statement.
“You’re walking a tightrope”, said Kevin Madden, a partner at Hamilton Place Strategies who previously served as spokesman to then-House Speaker John Boehner. But such traps are not always possible to execute. At first it simply existed to oppose President Obama’s agenda, the health care reforms in particular.
Former Secretary of State Clinton, the first woman to be picked as a presidential nominee by a major USA party, tried to focus on issues that could win over undecided women voters on Tuesday, proposing to expand the child tax credit so more low-income families can benefit and to increase by US$1000 a year the tax credit available to families for each child up to age four.
But Obama’s term is nearly over.
In the final stretch, Republican strategists and leaders have been encouraging members to focus on presenting themselves as a check on a Hillary Clinton presidency that could potentially result in a leftward shift of the country. Trump wasn’t just unshackled, he had staged a prison break and was running screaming through the streets as his many millions of fans cheered him on. “And it’s nothing compared to what she did â?? she should be in jail”. He threatened to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate her-not just for her use of a private email server, but for her “situation”, which can easily be construed as an open-ended mandate to dig until enough spurious charges could be cobbled together as the basis for an indictment, a trial, and a conviction.
This is the same base that today is supporting Donald Trump, the man who reportedly paid someone to listen to talk radio, read right-wing news sites and brief him on them regularly, going all the way back to 2011. Also that numerous remarks were made in paid speeches that netted her over $20 million since she resigned as Secretary of State in 2013. In fact, doing it before the election, before he has officially lost, would show goodwill. Democratic House gains appear certain, but Democrats would have to pick up 30 seats to win control. And it illustrates how hard it will be for the GOP to rebuild if Trump loses.
He continued: “The kind of election we really want to have – it’s not the one we are necessarily having right now — the one we really want to have is saying we have got ideas and solutions, ‘let’s win this so we have got the right to do it'”.
